The challenge
The sudden and unexpected rise of general-purpose AI (GPAI) has already significantly changed the landscape of technology policy and national security.
Policymakers now need to answer major questions:
-
How should we regulate the capabilities of GPAI where these have potential for great benefit and harm?
-
Where will power concentrate as GPAI drives automation, and what should be done about it?
-
How dangerous is the global AI arms race, and how can the risks be managed?
The way policymakers answer these questions, and many more, right now could shape the trajectory of this technology and its impact for decades to come.

Our Mission
General-purpose AI is already significantly impacting the world and many aspects of life - and will have an even greater influence in the future. Its governance will shape how this power is developed, distributed and applied.
Our mission is to contribute by developing the talent pool working on these challenges, providing routes into AI policy careers for exceptional students. We are particularly focussed on increasing diversity and representation in the field, and bridging the gap between technical and policy expertise.
